Kiinteistöakku2030 – Towards a More Energy-Efficient and Carbon-Neutral Finland

The Kiinteistöakku2030 project aims to accelerate the large-scale adoption of residential battery systems in Finnish households by 2030. Through this initiative, we seek to improve energy self-sufficiency, reduce energy costs, increase the use of renewable energy, enhance energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To achieve these goals, the project focuses on the cost-effective and safe installation and integration of residential battery systems into building energy systems. Special emphasis is placed on technical implementation, environmental sustainability, and the development of new business models.

Key Actions

  • International Benchmarking: An extensive comparative analysis of residential battery markets in the Nordic countries, the EU, the United States, Asia, and China. The study examines best practices, market development, and the impact of legislation.
  • Technical Development and Piloting: Development and piloting of residential battery systems in collaboration with industry partners. Activities include battery system comparisons, inverter options, integration with energy management systems, and testing of alternative battery chemistries (e.g., sodium-ion batteries).
  • Economic Tools and Business Models: Identification of optimal battery system sizes for households, development of a virtual simulation platform to assess the financial benefits of home battery systems, and creation of new business models.
  • Life Cycle Assessment: A comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) evaluating the environmental impacts of residential battery systems using more than 15 indicators.
  • Kiinteistöakku2030 Roadshow: Project results and pilot demonstrations will be presented in five cities through workshops, live demonstrations, and networking events.

Project Partners

The project is implemented as a joint initiative coordinated by Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences (SEAMK) as the lead partner. Co-implementing partners include: Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK), South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk), Turku University of Applied Sciences (TurkuAMK) and Centria University of Applied Sciences.

Kiinteistöakku2030 Road Show – Future Energy Solutions Near You

The results and solutions developed during the project culminate in the nationwide Kiinteistöakku2030 Road Show, organised at the final stage of the project.

What is the Road Show?

A series of events held in five locations, showcasing pilots, demonstrations, and concrete systems developed during the project. The events include expert presentations on installation, safety, and economic benefits of batteries, and offer excellent networking opportunities for professionals in the field.

Stay tuned!

The detailed schedule and programme for each location will be published on these pages during spring 2026.
